19/20 Oct Lucan 16/17 Nov Lucan 2/3 Nov Cork 2019! Lessons in Drawing

Motivated by the Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Book

You can learn to draw, you just might not believe it and this is often the first stumbling block to attaining a new skill. Betty Edwards (Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain)

The organiser Beatrix Fekete holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts. She is  familiar with the alternative drawing on the right side of the brain method and also with the classical drawing methods.

She combines all these elements during the training courses.

 Lessons in Drawing for beginners:

Saturday morning there is a short discussion about  what would  an ideal environment for creating art be and how to set up a mini studio at home for immediate use.

Then we talk about what kind of equipment are recommended to use together to succeed in drawing.

After exhilarating meditation we discuss the method that  we will follow.

In the center of our attention will be our brain. We discuss how  our mental state and brain influences the way we think, the way we see and the way we draw. Especially we observe the right hemisphere which is responsible for visual thinking.

Operating in everyday life we mostly use the left hemisphere of the brain to complete our tasks. The whole education system is supporting the development of left hemisphere thinking.

If you feel unbalanced sometimes, uncertain during the day or just unable to draw that is absolutely normal.  Half of the brain – the right half – is actually not in use most of the time.

It is possible to activate the right hemisphere of the brain, anywhere, any time with awareness. Meditation, soothing music, yoga, Thai-chi change the whole circulation and energy flow in the body and with the feeling of wholeness you – the new artist is able to create wonderful pieces of arts.

The course is great for building self confidence.

The technical side of the drawing course:

We brake down the visual problems to simple steps.

Throughout the course we improve the five elements of drawing all together (outlines, positive-negative shapes, compositions, values, unity)  On each level we add something new to every elements.

Beatrix prepares tasks always according to the students concentration skills, interests and speed. The students do a lot of preliminary drawing exercises and the goal is to finish a self portrait at the end of the second day.

The students learn a lot from each others.  The feedback helps the students to see their art and themselves from a different perspective. Helps the artist to leave the less successful habits behind and start with a new, fresh approach. Students keep each other motivated.

The course is rather complex and provides an excellent foundation for a personal artistic journey.
