No doubt, peonies are my very favourite flowers. When the season starts -which is really short here in Ireland- I whizz to the florist and I straight away grab some. I start my work with the composition. I set the lights, I take a few reference photographs, then I just draw, draw, draw and draw. I must be fast, because these cute ladies open fast as thought. So, I try to gather as much information as I can in a short period of time.
On this particular painting I used alizarin crimson and ultramarine blue colour. Limited palette.
The whole painting process was a joy for me from the very beginning till the end, as I was confident with my initial composition.
Could be interesting: I painted the stems almost a year later as my reference photo disappeared.
